Executive Director’s Message – August 2025

Kristin A. Heath, DBA, MBA, MHA

We hope your summer days are bright and that each day has a joyful moment and a new memory made. In August, we embark on the 19th anniversary of the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute — a milestone symbolizing nearly two decades of unwavering commitment to compassionate care, innovation and pushing cancer care forward. Every patient and every family we’ve served continues to inspire our mission and strengthen our resolve to provide the best cancer care.

We recognize several important awareness observances in the coming months, and each one serves as a reminder of the importance of continued advocacy, education and research for each disease site and the patients facing their cancer diagnosis.

August 1st  was World Lung Cancer Day.

September brings several awareness campaigns:

  • Prostate Cancer Awareness Month reminds us that early screening can save lives, especially for men over 50 or those with a family history of prostate cancer.
  • Lymphoma Awareness Month shines a light on both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and the progress we continue to make in targeted therapies.
  • Childhood Cancer Awareness Month underscores the courage of our youngest patients and the importance of proton therapy in treating children with cancer.

Thank you for supporting the Institute. We look forward to the new year ahead as we approach 20 years of moving cancer care forward.

Kristin Heath, DBA, MBA, MHA
